This spring is not just any ordinary gardening season for Heeman’s, a family owned and operated garden centre and strawberry farm. This spring Heeman's is celebrating 50 years serving the local community. First opening its doors in 1963 as a small ready picked strawberry farm, Bill and Susan Heeman quickly evolved the farm to become the strawberry destination in the area. It didn’t take long for the Heeman’s to realize their true calling was growing flowers, something that came second nature to them given their Dutch heritage.
Today Heeman’s is a three-generation family business with grandchildren now joining the ranks. While many improvements and expansions have been added over the last five decades, the core values that the business was built on remain the same; quality, value and service.
Fall is the perfect time of year to get out and do many important jobs around your yard and garden. The weather is usually nicer to work in that the heat of the summer, the soil has more moisture and is easier to work. The plants and lawn are also nicely greening up after a long hot summer.
For any lawn enthusiast the white grub is public enemy #1! The brown patches they leave on your lawn are an eyesore that are just ugly. Fight grubs naturally with beneficial nematodes, naturally occurring microscopic worms that prey on grubs. An enemy of my enemy is my friend!
