Caring for Chrysanthemums

For the best results planting beautiful fall Chrysanthemums in your garden, Heeman Greenhouses recommends the following:

  1. Plant as early in the fall as possible and water well for the best chance of survival.
  2. Do not fertilize in the fall.
  3. Do not cut back the plant at the end of the season.
  4. In the spring and early summer prune the plant once a month to between 3 and 4 inches high.
  5. Do a final pruning on approximately July 15. July 1 for earlier flowers.
  6. Fertilize once at final pruning with 20-20-20.
  7. Enjoy your beautiful fall Mums from Heeman Greenhouses year after year.

If leaving in container and using for fall colour, fertilize once a week with 20-20-20 and water well. Discard or compost when finished blooming.
