This beautiful native wildflower seed mixture contains both perennial and self-seeding annual flowers and grasses that prefer a full-sun location, and range in height from 18″ to 60″. One seed packet should cover a space approximately 30 to 50 sq. ft with blooms lasting from early summer through fall.
Once established, it will be a little slice of the Carolinian in your yard that provides much loved shelter and food for native birds, butterflies and insects all year round. Most native seed mixes take a few years (up to 4) to really hit their stride, so be patient—the wait is certainly worth it!
Extra Care Tips
- Once established, this patch shouldn’t need much in terms of watering or maintenance, but to help it get established, water as needed throughout the first year.
- To encourage bushy growth, more seed head production, and to help keep aggressive weeds in check, you can cut the entire patch down to 8″ in height twice during the first year, and once during the second year.
- Continue careful hand removal of pockets of aggressive weeds during the establishment period.
- Keep in mind that it can take up to 4 years for a native planting to be fully established from seed.
