Start Something Good With Heeman’s!
Spring is here, and it’s your invitation to Start Something Good. Maybe it’s putting a brand new garden bed in your first home, planting fruit trees and shrubs for your grandkids, adding more natives to your existing gardens for the pollinators, recreating the feel of home to a new Canadian or some help selecting just the right plants for that tricky spot in your yard to make an eyesore beautiful. Whatever it is, this contest is about those real, hopeful beginnings—where curiosity meets soil, and a simple idea turns into something you can actually grow and enjoy. It’s not about perfection, just starting!
We’ll be reading every nomination story and choosing five stories/nominations that inspire us most:
- Four (4) of the shortlisted winners will receive a $150 Heeman’s gift card.
- One (1) of the shortlisted winners will be our grand prize winner and receive an $800 Heeman’s gift card along with help selecting the right plants for the right places in your project.
- Plus, twelve (12) additional entries will be randomly selected from all submissions to each receive a $50 Heeman’s gift card to get your projects started.

Start Something Good Contest FAQ
We will choose 5 stories that inspire us most! 4 of those will receive a $150 Heeman’s gift card, and 1 will receive an $800 gift card. There will also be 12 random winners that will receive a $50 gift card.
Random prize winners will be drawn on Friday, June 5th, 2026. Our shortlist and grand prize winners will be selected on Monday, June 8th, 2026.
Random and shortlist prize winners will receive an email to the registered address with notice of their win! You must reply to that email to accept the prize as awarded, so please ensure that [email protected] is on your safe list, or remember to check your spam folder for notifications.
Grand Prize Winners will be notified via phone call first, followed by email.

You can nominate a project or person only once, however you can nominate as many different projects/people as you would like, including yourself. You can only make 1 nomination per day.
The shortlist will be selected by a group of 3 or more Daymakers. The final Grand Prize Winner will be selected by the Heeman’s Family!
We are considering all sorts of projects that we know we can help get off the ground with free plants. From new homeowner gardens, or native plant restorations, to new veggie gardens and switching lawns to gardens… we’re looking for all types of people hoping to turn their planty dreams into a reality this summer.
